Islam 101

 
 

“Islam 101” is Light of Islam’s introduction to Islam class.  The quarterly curriculum covers the fundamental beliefs and practices of Islam.  The class follows a 12-week curriculum based in part on the Islamic Studies books by Abu Ameenah Bilal Phillips.  The course outline is as follows:


Weeks 1-4: Core beliefs


Week 1: Tawheed: the oneness of God

Week 2: Iman: Islamic beliefs

Week 3: Ibadah: Islamic worship

Week 4: Summary and review


Weeks 5-8: Sources of belief and guidance


Week 5: Qur’an

Week 6: Sunnah

Week 7: Seerah

Week 8: Summary and review


Weeks 9-12: Living as a Muslim


Week 9: “How-to” - prayer and fasting

Week 10: “How-to” - zakat and hajj

Week 11: The afterlife and judgment day

Week 12: The day, year and life of a Muslim


“Islam 101” is held every Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon.  Registration is open at any time during the session, but students must allow themselves time to review the entire curriculum.
